New West Physicians Accepts Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Champions Award
This award recognizes physician groups for efforts in national campaign to prevent heart attacks and stroke through lower blood pressure.

New West Physicians today accepted the Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Champions Award from U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) for its efforts to save lives through better blood pressure control. The award was presented in a ceremony at New West Physicians’ Golden, Colo., administrative offices by Laurie Konsella, MPA, Acting Regional Health Administrator, DHHS, Region VIII.

This also shows that a broad commitment to providing quality, affordable health care in a value-based setting can help improve outcomes and save lives.”
According to the CDC, nearly one in three American adults has high blood pressure, a leading cause of heart disease and strokes. Less than half of adults with high blood pressure have their condition under control, and millions more have high blood pressure that is undiagnosed or untreated.
Million Hearts is a national initiative led by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes in five years. The award recognizes health care Champions who implement patient care strategies to achieve blood pressure control rates of at least 70% or greater for their adult patients by using a variety of approaches. New West Physicians’ achieved a hypertension control rate of 83% and was one of just 24 national Hypertension Control Champions announced in 2017.

About the Million Hearts Challenge
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services today launched an annual challenge designed to identify and honor clinicians and health care teams that have helped their patients control high blood pressure and prevent heart attacks and strokes. The Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge recognizes exemplary public and private practices and providers that achieve sustained hypertension control rates of 70 percent or above. The challenge was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in support of Million Hearts, an HHS initiative aimed at preventing 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.
