Cancer Prevention Month: Tips for Prevention





The entire month is dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and encouraging prevention, early detection, and treatment!

1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer


Life can be hectic but making a few simple changes can me all the difference when trying to lower you risk of many cancers.


Here is what you can do to prevent it:
  • Exercise Regularly
    • Incorporate physical activity into your daily routines such as walking after dinner.
    • Exercise with another person it can motivate you and keep you to your schedule.
  • Don't Smoke
    • You can do it! It often takes six or seven tries before you quit for good.
    • Join a quit-smoking program; these are sometimes offered by your workplace or health plan.
  • Eat a Healthy Diet
    • Serve smaller portions and take your time while eating.
    • Choose mostly planted foods and avoid processed meats.
  • Drink Alcohol in Moderation
    • Choose non-alcoholic beverages at meals and gatherings.
    • Moderation consists of less than one drink a day for women and less than two a day for men.
  • Limit Sun Exposure
    • Stay away from sunlamps or tanning booths, self-tanning cream is a better option.
    • Wear a hat and sunscreen during long outings
  • Get Screening Regularly
    • Speak with a health care professional about which test(s) you should have and when.
